Ambitious bullet train project launched by PM Modi & Shinzo Abe

With increasing concerns about the safety of trains in the background, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe today threw the cornerstone of the ambitious bullet train project at the athletic stadium in Ahmedabad.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) will undertake the 508 km- Long Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. The estimated overall cost of Mumbai-Ahmedabad is Rs 1.1 lakh crore.

The bullet train project should not only give a new perspective to the railways but also give a boost to the regional economy. But, the ambitious project faces several challenges.

However, the railways have the hope of setting a better example. The railways expect that in the initial years, the bullet trains on the road to Ahmedabad-Mumbai would carry 1.6 Crores passengers each year.

The railways will operate originally in 35 ball trains. The Japanese bullet train has an annual average of less than 1 minute late with 100 percent security.
