Historic Jalpally Lake to get a makeover soon

Jalpally Lake, which spans over 274 acres and has a proximity to the airport, is about to get a facelift. Officials from Jalpally Municipality, in collaboration with other government agencies, are working tirelessly to improve the appearance of the water body. According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), as part of the beautification project, a Rock Garden at a cost of Rs. 9.5 crore will be built as well as walkways, cycling tracks, and an open gym, among other facilities.

The lake will be beautified in the same way that other water bodies in the city have been. GP Kumar, Commissioner of Jalpally Municipality, stated that “various government departments and agencies are collaborating to make it a mini Tank Bund.”

This water body, located near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, has long attracted tourists due to its scenic beauty. The lack of adequate visitor facilities, on the other hand, was a deterrent to the crowds, making the lake eventually become a haven for illegal activities. Jalpally Municipality has been working to improve its surroundings in recent years, and the Rachakonda Police has been patrolling the area 24 hours a day. An iron mesh has already been erected on the main bund to prevent waste from being dumped.

The lake is located in the Maheshwaram constituency, which is represented by Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy. The beautification projects are being undertaken as a result of her interest and initiative. It will be a good picnic spot for thousands of families staying in the area once it is finished, said the Commissioner. Jalpally Lake attracts a large number of migratory birds, and its proximity to another popular fishing spot, Umda Sagar, is an added bonus. Officials said there exist plans to introduce boating and a food court to the lake.

All of the scenic beauty of Historic Jalpally Lake will be restored gradually over time.
