Telangana bedecked with Bathukamma

Bathukamma is the regional festival celebrated across Telangana region on Bhadrapada Amavasya. The famous Hindu floral fest held two days ere Dusherra as an inaugural. Bathukamma indicates feminine felicitation. People of Telangana believe that Bathukamma represents the cultural spirit of Telangana. On this day, Hindu women formed Bathukamma in the form of gopuram temple that is beautifully decorated with a beautiful pile of flowers of seven concentric layers. These flowers include seasonal and the ones with medicinal values as well.

During Bathukamma, houses in Telangana are adorned with side variety of flowers like Celosia, Senna, Calendula, Chrysanthemum, Indian Lotus, Cucurbita leaves and flowers, Cucumis sativus leaves and flowers, Memecylon edule, Tridax procumbens, Trachyspermum ammi, Katla, Teku flowers, etc., Which bloom this season in various vibrant colors all across the cultivated and arid plains of the region.

Preparation of a Bathukamma is a folk art. All this brings us to the heart of the festival. The traditional music along with folklore goes life to the streets with live performances.

Here an interesting aspect is on the contrary to the regular floral arrangements Bathukamma will not be dismantled until it is drowned in the water.

The Festival will be held with the objective of generating green spaces to improve the environmental quality and the urban landscape through activities.

It seems that these actions embellish the urban environment; hopefully, it was done throughout the city and seasons in all areas of Telangana.
