Restoration work of the Victoria Memorial Home is to start soon

Victoria Memorial Home is set to undergo restoration work

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is planning to undertake the restoration of the historical monument, Victoria Memorial Home, which is over 120 years old.  

Victoria Memorial Home is located in Saroornagar Palace, a palace of the Nizam of Hyderabad. 

Earlier, the institution was named Victoria Memorial Orphanage. Later, the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru replaced ‘orphanage’ with ‘Home’. 

Currently, the structure is a residential high school and an orphanage. The restoration plan has been prepared by M/s Kshetra Architect, as reported by TNIE.  

Earlier, Arvind Kumar, the special chief secretary of the municipal administration and urban development department visited the  monument. 

It is estimated that Rs.12 crores are going to be spent on the monument's restoration work.  

Out of the total expenditure of Rs. 12 crores, the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SCDD) and Victoria Memorial Home are going to contribute Rs. 4 crores, and the HDMA will provide Rs. 8 crores.
