To cater to the needs of the people who have been hit hard by the recent lockdown and the Covid-19 pandemic, the Telangana government has directed the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) to continue the Annapurna Canteen scheme as usual, so that no one goes hungry.
All Annapurna canteens which were offering hot and hygienic meals for Rs 5 will remain operational during the pandemic. As per the civic body, 150 Annapurna centres on an average serve food to roughly 35,000 to 40,000 beneficiaries.
The GHMC operates these canteens along with the charitable trust of the Hare Krishna Movement.
