Centre issues notification amid AP, Telangana water row

Centre issues notification amid AP, Telangana water row, KRMB and GRMB to control irrigation projects.

Telangana Water Row is a significant development in Andhra Pradesh. Amid the political tensions, the Centre made an astonishing decision. All projects on the Krishna and Godavari rivers are to be under the supervision of the relevant boards, which will manage all project management from now on and declared that states should not intervene. It specifies that the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) will oversee 36 projects on the Krishna River and the Godavari River Management Board will oversee 71 projects on the Godavari River (GRMB).

The CISF is also in charge of project security. The notification will go into force on October 14th, and each state must deposit Rs. 200 crores within 60 days. The cost of maintenance must be paid within 15 days after the request. Unauthorized projects must be approved within six months of the notification taking effect, and if permissions are not secured, projects should be halted.

With repeated disagreements between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over power generation, water use, and new projects, the centre stepped in and handed over project management to the boards. On this topic, the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have had multiple rounds of talks with the centre. The drafts were sent by the individual boards. Telangana, on the other hand, has requested that the boards be notified only after the Brijesh Kumar tribunal's decision, while Andhra Pradesh has requested that the Bachawat Tribunal review the usage of 811 TMCs.This was recently considered at the Apex Council in October of last year, which was led by the Union Jal Shakti Minister and two CMs.The centre remarked that after hearing the perspectives of the two CMs, they will decide on the extent of the boards themselves. A notice to that effect was issued.

The Chairman of the Board, Member Secretary, and Chief Engineer should all be from different states, according to the Centre. The Krishna Board also oversees projects like headworks, barrages, reservoirs, regulating structures, canal networks, and transmission lines. It was stated that the Krishna River Management Board has the authority to provide directives to state governments about project management. In the event of a natural calamity, both AP and Telangana will be in charge of project management. The AP, on the other hand, applauded the central government's move, whilst Telangana has been vocal in its opposition.
