RERA projects come to halt without a head

Headless RERA concerns realtors as the projects come to halt

After Somesh Kumar's exit as Chairman of the Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), the critical body has remained headless, and several projects are in limbo, waiting for registrations.

According to official data, the last project approved for registration was on January 4, before Somesh Kumar was sent back to Andhra Pradesh as per the Telangana high court's order.

Due to the state government not appointing an in-charge chairperson, the property developers and real estate dominators are at their wits' end.

A member of CREDAI told the TOI that the department should have made alternative arrangements for a chairperson since RERA gets only two to five applications daily.

Only the chairman or an in-charge has the power to approve the projects for registration.

The government will take at least two months to fill the chairman and two-member posts.

A GHMC official said the government should have appointed a temporary chairperson immediately.

The government hasn't issued a notification either for appointing a RERA appellate tribunal or a judicial officer as the chairman.
