Historic Nizam's Wardrobe Inaugurated After Restoration

Historic Nizam's Wardrobe in Hyd was refurbished and inaugurated.

On Friday, a significant milestone was reached as the recently restored historic house housing the wardrobe of HH Nawab Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Bahadur, the VIth Nizam of Hyderabad, was inaugurated. Claimed to be the world's largest, is nestled within the Purani Haveli Palace, now known as the Nizam's Museum. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of former city police commissioner AK Khan, who did the honors.

This momentous occasion coincided with the Founder's Day of the Mukarram Jah School and marked the 90th birth anniversary of the late Walashan Mukarram Jah Bahadur, the VIIIth Nizam of Hyderabad.

Crafted from the finest Burma teak, this extraordinary exhibit comprises two parallel wardrobes, each extending an impressive 176 feet in length and spanning two levels. The event was hosted by the trustees of the Mukarram Jah Trust for Education and Learning, MA Faiz Khan, and Faiz Bin Jung, who welcomed dignitaries and guests.

The Nizam's distinctive practice of never repeating his garments and gifting his worn attire has left no authentic record of his wardrobe. Consequently, the remaining sections of this wardrobe serve as a testament to the diverse attire of Hyderabad's men, women, and children.

Remarkably, the wardrobe still retains its original hand-operated lift system to access different sections and boasts over 100 almirahs.
