To add a green touch to Hyderabad, the civic body has decided to take up extensive beautification & streetscaping works around city Outer Ring Road (ORR) service roads and medians.

HMDA’s Avenue Plantations Drive

During this pandemic era, the city Outer Ring Road is all set with several thematic plantations to get more colourful. The steps of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) are literally flourishing along the service roads, the medians and many others along with the ORR, and the journeys can now be a soothing affair for the eye, especially for the nature lovers. 

The whole effort is attributed to the Urban Forestry wing of the HMDA which, in various seasons, has planted different species in multiple saplings which bloom in various colours. The HMDA works to ensure vibrant flowering patterns on the roads and medians of ORR. All these efforts began to bring success because plants are now flourishing.

List of Thematic Plantations at Different Stretches of Hyderabad 

HMDA planted different kinds of species on the roads and medians of several stretches along with the ORR. They inlcude

• Spathodia Camponilata Orange flowers on Narsingi-Kollur stretch
• Cassia fistula yellow flowers at Kollur-Patancheru
• Tabebula Rosea pink flowers on Patancheru-Mallampet road
• Bahunia Blackeana dark pink flowers at Dundigal-Shamirpet stretch
• Jacaranda Mimosifolua violet flowers on Shamirpet-Keesara road

Most of these flowers flourish during the season of October-March. After about a month, motorists can experience the full bubble of flowers when driving along these different roads. For the last five years, this plantation project has been underway with about 11 lakh saplings planted since on 13 stretches of ORR. The maintenance and assurance of sapling growth are a challenge, and the urban forest wing of the HMDA is continually monitoring these plants.

The official stated that often the plants do not achieve their maximum potential despite their efforts due to genetic differences or the absence of nutritional supplements. These problems are handled periodically with more staff deploying and the management teams monitoring. 

The Government’s beautification programme around Hyderabad Outer Ring Road would enhance commuters driving experience soothing and comfortable.
