Lockdown Triggers an Exodus of Migrant Workers

The lockdown announcement by the state government has triggered an exodus of migrant workers from places, such as  Mahabubnagar,  Shadnagar,  Mahabubabad, Yadadri and other areas.

As per media reports, many workers were seen crowding the Secunderabad Jubilee bus stop and the Mahatma Gandhi Imlibun Bus station after the lockdown was announced by the state government. Over the last month, migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan have started moving out of town.

The Indian Federation of App-Based Transportation (IFAT) Workers requested a relief package immediately following the announcement of the lockdown. In order to ensure that drivers working with platform-based transport companies are not affected by the lockdown, the IFAT has demanded special economic and social support packages, as per Salauddin Shaik of IFAT.

In addition, a demand to include a waiver of the loans or a moratorium on employees' financial commitments has been made.
