HMDA & Aga Khan Trust To Restore Saidanima Tomb

Restoration Work of Hyderabad's Saidanima Tomb to be Completed by October

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is repairing the historic Saidanima Tomb with the Aga Khan Trust. The conservation of the tomb has been given a high priority during the past year thanks to a joint effort by HMDA and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.

The government's Special Chief Secretary, Arvind Kumar, reviewed the repairs. He tweeted that everything, including the lighting, will be done by the beginning of October 2023.

Previously, the Special Chief Secretary had tweeted about the restoration after visiting Saidanima in Hyderabad with the zonal commissioner of Secunderabad and representatives from the state heritage department.

The Maqbara Saidani Ma Saheba, a 19th-century monument on the banks of Hyderabad's famous Hussain Sagar Lake, has been abandoned for decades but is now undergoing repair so that it may once again compete with the region's many modern landmarks.

Syed Meraj Nawab, the great-grandson of Syeda Saidanima Saheba, voiced his displeasure with how the place had been neglected. In addition, the baoli, or step well, on the Saidanima burial grounds had been neglected for quite some time.

One of the wealthiest nobles of the time commissioned the tomb's construction, known as the Maqbara Saidani Ma Saheba, in 1883. Sardar Abdul Haq Diler ul Mulk Diler ul Daula of Bombay wished to erect a grand memorial to his beloved mother that would blend the architectural traditions of the Mughal, Qutb Shahi, and Asaf Jahi dynasties.
