The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) will likely commence its expansion plans towards the Old City metro rail and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport metro rail this year.
For this project, Rs. 2,500 crores were allocated in the 2023-2024 budget.
The Finance minister, T Harish Rao, has allocated Rs. 1,500 crores for the Hyderabad Metro Rail.
He has also allocated Rs. 500 crores for the Old City and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport metro expansion project.
In his budget speech, T Harish Rao noted that there was a need to meet the requirements of the ever-increasing number of passengers to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport every day.
The airport metro is to operate from Raidurg and terminate at the RGIA, covering a distance of 31 kilometres.
This metro rail project is expected to be completed within the course of the next three years.
The Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, had recently laid the foundation for the expansion of the project taken up with the state government’s own resources.
