Telangana Govt is set to review the Rs 83320cr Hyd Pharma City project

The newly elected Congress government intends to initiate a thorough review of significant industrial investment ventures, including the Hyderabad Pharma City (HPC) project valued at a massive USD 10 billion or Rs 83,320 crore, which the former IT minister and BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched.

Issues concerning land acquisition for the HPC have emerged, involving legal complications and opposition from some farmers regarding the acquisition process. A senior official quoted by The Hindu Businessline indicated an almost certain review of the project.

The previous Telangana government encountered delays in the project, citing various challenges. They highlighted approximately 500 pharmaceutical and life sciences companies' interest in establishing themselves in the new city, with plans to allocate space to over 100 of these companies.
Before the elections, the then IT minister KTR had mentioned the willingness of both local and international pharmaceutical giants to establish facilities in the state.
In the fiscal year 2021-22, the state managed to attract investments worth Rs 6,400 crore from 215 companies, marking a substantial increase of 200% compared to the life science sector's previous year's investment of Rs 2,766 crore from about 150 companies, according to government data.
Local farmers have objected to the project, citing concerns about losing their land in the name of development and inadequate compensation. The former BRS government had planned to acquire 18,000 acres of land, with 10,000 acres already procured.
