Telangana 2BHK Housing Scheme | 1 Lakh Poor Family to Get House by October

The six-year-long wait and dream of becoming owners of “dignified housing” for homeless poor in the form of 2bhk houses have shown signs of materializing. The Telangana government is planning to complete the construction of one lakh 2BHK housing units in the Greater Hyderabad area by October this year. Around Rs 11,900 crore was allocated by the state government in the 2020-21 budget to ensure that the ambitious housing project is completed at the earliest. GHMC Officials and contractors have taken it up as a challenge to complete the construction of houses in and around Hyderabad by Dussehra in tune with the announcement made by municipal minister KT Rama Rao.

Telangana Government Flagship Project

About one lakh family’s vision of becoming owners of a decent residence will come to fruition by October 2020. The state government has sped up the construction of 2BHK housing units, a flagship project of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The double bedroom housing construction work will be carried out by contractors under the supervision of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and these entities have, likewise, taken up this undertaking as a challenge.

The department of municipal administration is fully aware of the shortage of labor from the lockdown and measures to curb the pandemic. Under the State government’s direction, the department has permitted contractors to bring laborers from outside Telangana to complete labor requirements. The State has arranged special buses and trains for this purpose.

The GHMC officials were instructed to complete drinking water and power supply work at the construction sites and to take over the 2BHK houses after completion. The State government provided top priority over the scheme, with houses already allocated in some areas to beneficiaries. Nearly one lakh 2BHK units are in the final stages of the construction cycle.

The state government flagship project is expected to provide dignified accommodations to nearly 50,000 families, which would make Hyderabad a slum-free city.
