Saidanima Tomb Restoration in Hyderabad: A Historic Milestone

The Saidanima Tomb in Hyderabad has undergone a restoration.

The Saidanima Tomb, a State Protected Monument, has undergone restoration through a collaborative effort between the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Aga Khan Trust, reaching its completion.

Arvind Kumar, the Special Chief Secretary to the government, has shared images of the restored tomb on his Twitter account.

The restoration was first announced by the Special Chief Secretary through a tweet following his visit to Saidanima in Hyderabad, accompanied by the zonal commissioner of Secunderabad and officials from the state heritage department.

Syed Meraj Nawab, the great-grandson of Syeda Saidanima Saheba, had voiced concerns about the site's neglect and lack of maintenance, highlighting the deteriorating condition of the historic tomb and the baoli (stepwell) located within its premises.

The Saidanima Tomb in Hyderabad was constructed by Sardar Abdul Haq, also known by the title Diler Jang (1853–1896). Originally hailing from the Bombay Province under British Crown rule, he gained prominence in the late nineteenth century within the historical state of Hyderabad.

Sardar Abdul Haq, or Diler Jang, honored his mother's memory by commissioning the construction of the Saidanima Tomb. This elegant monument is located on the northern side of the reservoir bund road of Hussain Sagar, along the route to Secunderabad.

Saidanima Tomb holds significance as one of Hyderabad's state-protected monuments, and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Telangana has identified a total of 500 such state-protected monuments in the region.
