Telangana Property Tax Cut

The confusion existed among property owners with delayed decisions in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. Some individuals have visited municipal offices to inquire whether the scheme will now be applicable due to the outcome of polls.

The GHMC informed that the rebate would be applicable to those in Greater Hyderabad who pays a tax of up to Rs 15,000 a year. If property owners have already paid tax this year, the amount of 50 percent tax rebate will be adjusted in the next financial year.

Ahead of the polls, multiple policies were announced, and one of them was a tax deduction. With the election of new members, doubts were raised about the property tax scheme.

The vice-president Major Shiva Kiran (retd) of the United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (UFERWAS) stated that social media was criticized for the misunderstanding. The confusion has prevailed after text messages and videos were shared on social media, stating that all schemes would no longer be applicable because of the delayed decisions in GHMC council and property tax was one of them.

Around 11.84 lakh property owners in the city would benefit from the tax rebate. The GHMC Khairatabad zone recorded the highest revenue, covering the city's central part, followed by the Serilingampally area covering the IT corridor and the Secunderabad zone.

A GHMC official informed that it was always the commercial establishment owners who postponed payment of property tax. There is no problem faced by residential properties, and bill collectors are facing challenges while collecting taxes from commercial establishment owners.
