Additional Ramps on PVNR Expressway to Complete by March-End

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) aims to complete the development of additional entrance and exit ramps on the PVNR Expressway work by March-end.

As per HMDA officials, 50% of the work on the ramps near the Royal Oak building has already been completed, and the work has been completed without impacting the flow of traffic. The upwards ramp is planned to promote the flow of traffic from the Attapur end to the city, and the down ramp would ease the movement of traffic from the city to the Attapur end.

Currently, on the layout, there are three sets of up and down ramps. HMDA has taken on the challenge of building an additional set of ramps in light of the demand from residents and to provide access to local area traffic.

The up and down ramps will start from Pillar No 156 and stop on either side of the structure at Pillar No 166 near the Royal Oak Building. They are being built at Mehdipatnam to relieve traffic congestion and to encourage additional points of entry and exit on the expressway.

The regular traffic jams at Nanal Nagar and Rythu Bazar have been a problem for a long time. Also after crossing Sarojini Devi Hospital, those coming from the Airport and going towards Tolichowki and beyond have to take the 'U' turn. Motorists from the airport end and going towards Tolichowki can take a left turn at the Nanal Nagar with the construction of the down ramp.

On the need for traffic regulation for the execution of the works, a senior official said the columns for the ramps were being installed on the service roads and no traffic regulation would be needed for this.

The state government has already approved Rs 36 crore for the project, and Rs 17.63 crore is being spent on the structure's civil works and the balance for transferring utilities and other costs. Huge water pipes had to be moved, and as part of the works, high tension wires had to be laid underground.

The objective is to complete the top ramp by the end of January and the down ramp by the end of March. Going by the speed of operations, it will achieve the target. Steel girders would be used in place of the traditional RCC girders to expedite the construction of ramps.
