Civic Body with Standard Operating Procedures to Take Up Potholes Repairs

Commuters can now expect for the quick repair of road potholes with the police department coming forward to help the civic bodies discover potholes to fix the issue on a priority basis.

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), surveillance cameras placed at every corner of the state capital will assist workers at the newly inaugurated Cyberabad Police Commissioner's Public Safety Integrated Operations and Data Centre to automatically locate potholes for repair.

More than five lakh cameras help in the prevention of crime. The data centre workers will capture the photos of potholes on a given stretch with the help of these cameras. The same photos for required intervention would be shared with the GHMC, HMDA and R&B.

Hyderabad's Pothole Threats to Overcome Soon

Using AI, experts are designing a technique to ensure that a pothole is identified and a picture recorded by the surveillance cameras. They are prepared to extend the required assistance to the civic bodies in providing information about potholes along with photographs.

As per the official, in collaboration with the civil departments concerned, the police department is planning Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to fix potholes after they have been detected through surveillance cameras.

The SOPs would be structured in such a way that the issue on the roads would not be resolved by any bureaucratic rigmarole or authority dispute. Earlier, there was uncertainty about which department should fix the pothole laid down on roads maintained by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Hyderabad, the Cantonment Board of Secunderabad, the Department of Roads & Buildings and the Indian National Highway Authority.

Once the SOPs are completed, repair to potholes will be immediately taken up giving much-needed relief to travellers, and the official stated the process would be completed in a few weeks after adding the process.
