Construction of 200 Bus Shelters in Hyderabad with Modern Facilities

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is now working on constructing 200 new bus shelters that will be equipped with toilets, mobile charging points and other amenities at different locations in Hyderabad.

Construction of New Bus Shelters in PPP Scheme

The old, untidy, and unutilized bus shelters in Hyderabad will soon be converted into new, accessible, and eco-friendly ones. Under the PPP system, the GHMC will reconstruct these bus shelters by engaging a private developer on a 'build, operate and transfer (BOT) model.

The project is divided into four packages, the department will have to demolish the existing bus shelters and build new ones in their spots. The municipal body will enter into a 10-year concession agreement with the concessionaire, further extendable on a performance basis for up to five years.

The agency will conduct the services during the duration in compliance with the designs, technical requirements, performance criteria, and guidelines proposed. Throughout the period the concessionaire will be granted the right to receive revenue from ads. It will be required to pay GHMC advertising and concession fees.

Bus Shelter with High-quality Facilities

GHMC officials stated that three months is the maximum time allocated for completing the construction. The Agency has to take over the management and maintenance of bus shelters during the concession period. The concessionaire must have space to implement TSRTC's Real-Time Arrival System (which has a GPS facility) and display maps of the route and bus numbers.

They also need to develop an information system for passengers, which will include up-to-date alerts on highways, bus numbers, schedules, charges, route guides, search destinations and urban Hyderabad landscapes. Amenities like Dustbins, men's and women's toilets and mobile charging points are included.
