Dharani Portal Needed More Changes to Make it Accessible

The Dharani portal, the systematic all-in-one platform for agricultural and non-agricultural property transactions initiated on November 2, continues to face many glitches.

Identifying it as a positive initiative, experts believe it is important to make the portal more user-friendly with some improvements. Although the non-agricultural property aspects are not operational currently, the Telangana government declared that these services would be launched shortly.

Plans to Enhance Dharani Portal Services

It is very advantageous to have all on one platform, but there are certain conditions, such as getting a land title guarantee rule, to be effective. As suggested by the NITI Aayog, there is an urgent need to pass a land title Act and resurvey of the land must be undertaken before all transactions are transformed into Dharani, said M Sunil Kumar, land law expert and assistant professor with the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR).

Recently, NITI Aayog requested all state governments to introduce land title guarantee legislation to place all property-related transactions on one platform as part of a broader business-friendly exercise. It is appropriate to forward the draft copies of these laws to NITI Aayog. As of now, this type of acts are formulated in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

Data relating to seven departments of revenue, forest, Waqf board, endowments, local bodies, survey and settlement have been combined in the Dharani portal along with information of loan, subsidy and court decree.

In response to several complaints, the government assured farmers and other owners that corrections would be made in due time. The Dharani issues are notified, and plans are made to tackle all the problems. The idea behind this portal's launch is to help farmers who are going through a lengthy process for registrations, regulations, etc. The agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy stated that Dharani portal would come up as a one-stop solution.
