GHMC & HMDA Take Up the Restoration Work of Stepwells in Hyderabad

In a bid to improve and restore stepwells in and around the city, works at various stepwells are being carried out by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Stepwells are among Telangana's most significant landmarks and  have been popular since the Kakatiya era.

Restoring Works of Hyderabad Stepwells in Progress

MAUD (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar informed that the cleaning of the stepwells of Bhagwandas Bagh in Gudimalkapur was in progress.

It is a private stepwell, but the drive was taken up by HMDA. Many officials complimented the works and efforts to restore water structures that are still very important today. The pre-restoration work at many stepwells started and there are several wells which can be restored with the support from HMDA.

The most important benefit of such a drive would be that they would have water that could be used for drinking too. It is assumed that, on an average, each of the stepwells contains around 24 lakh litres of water.
