Government to Implement Real-Time Monitoring of Groundwater in Telangana

The government plans to introduce an automated communication mechanism groundwater levels in which measurements and data are gathered at remote areas and transmitted to monitoring equipment.

Govt to Develop Groundwater Real-Time Data Collection System

The Telangana Ground Water Department is hoping that real-time data collection will commence in two months as well as data analysis and distribution for government departments, and the general public will start immediately afterwards. This development has taken place after the arrival of the equipment and the installations process.

The digital metres will also deliver the central database with historical data to allow analysts to compare water levels in a certain Basin at different times.

For example, the groundwater levels before and after Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) was constructed can be compared. Data on the surface water level, water viability in this subsoil and the shift in soil levels over some time can be ascertained.

The real-time and historical data will be connected with the Telangana Water Resources Information System introduced by the Department of Irrigation of Telangana and Command Area Development so that the general public can access data. One day, the same data will be closely linked to the Chief Minister’s Dashboard, allowing authorities to make informed decisions on the groundwater level in real-time.

Process of Groundwater Monitoring System

The Groundwater Information System is the real interface between the Department of Groundwater and the public through the mobile app. People will get to know the level of groundwater where they stay as well as water quality. The user must pick the geographical location in the app and check for detailed information.

The user does not need to stay close to the waterfront, since the app will be based on the GIS (Geographic Information System) and linked to the central GWD database with historical data of all geographical locations in the state. It will collect and show the details. However, after the database are ready to disseminate information, the app is created. GWD officials said that the app would be ready in six months.
