GHMC DRF Teams to Handle Monsoon Contingencies in Hyderabad

With handling rescue and relief operations, the GHMC Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams are all geared up to protect the citizens of Hyderabad, as heavy rains lashing the city and furthermore rainfall predicted over the next few days.

GHMC with Monsoon Rescue Operations 

Currently, there are 16 DRF groups consisting mainly of 360 people working round the clock in three shifts in the city. Both DRF personnel are provided with a variety of emergency and safety equipment capable of addressing numerous forms of problems, such as tree crashes, waterlogging, etc. Three specialized boat team members are also ready to take part in any contingencies resulting from heavy rains or floods.

As per the EVDM Director Viswajit Kampati, since the last three days, more than 200 complaints have been received and resolved. And over the previous 24 hours, 80 complaints have been received and addressed from different parts of the city. Of the 80 grievances, 34 were related to the fall of trees or branches, accompanied by potholes and waterlogging. All measures have been taken to reduce the inconvenience to citizens.

Over the last three days, the DRF teams have ensured that there are no massive gridlocks in Hyderabad owing to the flood of water. Specialized machines and pumps have been placed at strategic locations in the city for rapid response.

Emergency and Relief Activities of GHMC

Three teams of DRF, including one boat team, are taking up rescue and relief operations in Warangal from Sunday. They have rescued over 120 citizens in Warangal till the last reports came in. They will be taking up the rescue works for another 24 hours.

As a precautionary step, the GHMC has recently taken demolition drive and removed a few old and dilapidated structures in the city. On Monday, the municipal corporation removed rain-soaked and weak walls in Ramanthapur, old and dilapidated buildings in Amberpet, Malakpet, Falaknuma and other regions. Aside from this, residents in a few old and dilapidated buildings have been vacated in Papaiah Basthi, Malakpet and other areas to prevent any accidents from occurring.

With ready DRF Team and the precautionary measures of GHMC would mitigate the hardship of residents in Hyderabad.
