minister of municipal administration and urban development mr. k t rama rao spoke about the proposed online building permission system in hyderabad on friday at a workshop for town planning officials. he discussed about simplifying the state approval process for building permits.

what is a building permit?

a building permit is an official permission given by the local government department that allows you or your contractor to carry out a construction or remodeling project. this approves all of hyderabad's building designs and plans. all building activities within its jurisdiction are liable to obtain ghmc's approval in compliance with the 1955 ghmc act.

ghmc is a civic body that manages the activities in telangana, hyderabad. it works to smooth out the requisite facilities for the twin cities as the local government. parliament has granted full powers to control the building activities under its jurisdiction to the local authority. therefore everyone needs to receive approval from the respective authority to start any building.

until granting ghmc construction permission to build any residential or commercial apartments in hyderabad, the city planning authority carries out detailed checks. some factors considered before granting permission are the proximity to landmarks, a heritage structure, water bodies, oil or gas pipeline, and the building's height. your building design plan must comply with the rules and regulations

minister ktr, speaking with officials, emphasized the need to ensure transparency in issuing permits. he said a new building permit program would soon be implemented in the state by the government. the new system of approval will improve people's perception of city planning officials. the permits will be given on the ts-ipass lines that provide single-window clearances for industries. as part of the new municipal act telangana 2019, this new approval system will be introduced.

minister ktr said the new system of approvals is being implemented to provide people with better services and also to make the approval system transparent and effective. easy registration will be sufficient for those constructing a building within 75 yards according to the new system. self-declaration forms may be used if the applicant builds a building within 600 yards and the applicant seeks permits through a single-window system if it reaches 600 yards.

the new system has the power to demolish unlawful buildings that breach the norms. if the officials make any mistakes action will be taken against them in keeping with the norms. the minister said the vacancies would soon be filled in the town planning department. he also pointed out that the basic infrastructure will be improved at different municipal offices.

the new standards only applicable to municipalities and not to buildings within the boundaries of greater hyderabad municipal corporation (ghmc). maud officials and the town and country planning directorate have been instructed by ktr to ensure that all building permit documents and software tools should also be available in both state languages other than english. also to publish the telangana municipal act 2019 online in telugu and urdu as well.
