Laying of 137 Link Roads Taken Up to Ease Hyderabad’s Traffic Congestion

Telangana’s Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday, Nov 9th announced that there would be 137 link roads set up in Hyderabad as part of a major road decongestion plan.

Three road links in the city were launched on Nov 9th, and the minister declared that 137 roads are stretching 126.20 kilometres, with the objective of enhancing mobility along the main road corridors.

In the first phase, 37 link roads with a length of 44.7 km have been taken up at an estimated amount of Rs 313.65 crore and the work at several stages of construction. KTR said that The state government is focused on developing basic infrastructure to address the needs of the growing population. And Hyderabad has emerged as the fastest-growing metro cities in the country.

In order to facilitate the congestion of traffic, the authorities concerned have systematically mapped the road network. To pick up the burden from main roads, they concentrate on ring roads and highways. For this structure a separate entity, the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation has been developed. 

According to the Government, it will hold a list of 137 link roads in the public domain and would encourage people to bring forward their proposals to include more link roads in the list. At the cost of Rs 6,000 crore, the Government has implemented the Strategic road development programme (SRDP). Also, a comprehensive road maintenance programme has been taken up.

In the past six years, the Government has spent Rs 8,113 crore on improving the standard of living in Hyderabad. This is achieved with the construction of fly-over, underpasses, slip/link roads and upgrades to crossroads.
