Major Works of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme to Start Soon

Telangana Government prestigious and world's largest multi-stage Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) flagship is set to begin in November.

Proposed Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme

The critical works to lift 3 TMC from Link II and Link IV of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) flagship to start soon.

Although work on lifting an additional TMC of water under Connection started right from day one of the project's launch, work was delayed due to incessant rains on the other two links that were to begin in July this year. The works are anticipated to proceed at a quicker pace now with the tender process completed.

The capacity building for the lifting of the three tmc from Lakshmi (Medigadda) dam to Yellampalli has been completed under Link 1. This basically means that the works have been completed to extract additional tmc from Medigadda through the barrages of Saraswathi (Annaram), Parvathi (Sundilla) and the pump houses of Kannepalli, Siripuram, and Goliwada and the Connection of the 13 km long gravity canal. In fact, the gravity canal was constructed to carry three tmc of water daily.

Initially, Medigadda had 11 pumps, each with 40 MW of electricity, which could pump 2 TMC per day. Six pumps were eventually installed, increasing the total number of pumps to 17 to lift an additional one tmc. The construction of these pumps has been finished, and testing is also underway. Civil works were simultaneously performed for the 17 pumps and draft tubes. The fore-bays, artificial ponds where the 17 pumps would drop water, were also built.
