SCR to Install Organic Waste Composting Plant at Hyd & Kazipet Stations

The move to introduce organic waste composting machines at Hyderabad and Kazipet stations was taken by the South Central Railway (SCR), which is always at the frontlines of implementing eco-friendly measures.

Installation of Organic Waste Composting Machine

The SCR is installing composting machines for organic waste at stations in Hyderabad and Kazipet. Supported under the CSR initiative by Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Hyderabad, each of these machines has a capacity of 50 kg and costs about Rs 2.15 lakh.

Waste produced at the stations includes garden waste, sweeping waste, canteen waste, kitchen waste, plastic paper and glass is divided into organic waste and inorganic waste, which is normally handed over for further disposal to the local municipality.

The organic waste produced at the stations is transformed into manure through the waste composting machine, which can be used in the gardens of the stations themselves to ensure zero waste management at the stations.

Among the residents of the Railway colony and the public at railway premises, awareness is being developed to segregate waste and assist in the disposal of waste as per standards. Wet & organic waste is processed into manure as it is shipped to local authorities for inorganic dry waste.

Gajanan Mallya, SCR General Manager, complimented the Officials and Environment and Housekeeping Management Team of the Secunderabad Division for moving forward in installing environmentally-friendly initiatives.

Such waste composting machines should also be boosted to ensure environmentally friendly waste disposal at other important stations.
