Civic Bodies Cleaning Drive at Hussain Sagar

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the GHMC are planning to begin the work of clearing the leftover idols and other materials from the Hussain Sagar only after the immersion of Ganesh Idols.

To clear the waste from the lake, HMDA deployed Dredge Utility Crafts and two Floating Trash Collectors. Similarly, all waste was removed by the GHMC from the footpath, on tank bund, NTR marg and other places.

HMDA official stated that every year, 2000 to 3,000 metric tonnes of waste is dug up from the lake, but that wasn't done this year. Due to the virus pandemic this year there are not many idols set up by youth groups also the idol sizes being too small. So in the lake, not many idols remain.

However, directly after the immersion ceremony, the FTCs and DUCs were put into service. At Tank Bund, NTR Marg and other areas additional workforce were also deployed to remove the waste. By Wednesday night all the waste will be cleared by municipal corporation sanitation staff.
