Hyderabad to Boom With Organised Cycling Tracks

To boost and promote cycling culture among people, the Telangana government geared to introduce cycling track initiative in specified places in Hyderabad.

Amazing Cycling Tracks in Hyderabad

A network of cycle tracks will be connecting the city suburbs and encourage cycling culture. In the Khairatabad zone, seven cycling tracks of 46 km shall first be developed with tracks up to 10km. The entire length will be marked with not just the tracks but other similar paraphernalia such as signage, road marking, temporary barricading and plug play bollards.

The project aimed at encouraging cycling has the objective of covering a total of 450 km of exclusive routes across the city and expanding into the outskirts of IT corridors. The areas to be addressed shall include Cyberabad, Hitec City, Kukatpally, Dilsukhnagar, Charminar, Mehdipatnam, Financial district, Hyderabad Knowledge Centre and Kokapet.

The government is looking for the best use of 'India Cycle4Change Challenge (C4C Challenge)' initiative under the Smart Cities Missions of Housing and Urban Affairs mission to promote eco-friendly transport among people in major cities.

Cycling Track Selected Cities

Three cities, Hyderabad, Warangal and Karimnagar from the Telangana are from the 95 cyclically friendly cities in the country that have registered for the 'India Cycle4Change Challenge'. Technical advice and assistance are provided by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HUMTA) for effective implementation of the C4C Challenge in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Plans for the cycle track and action plan in Khairatabad's central area are being established together with the city's traffic police. To locate Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) docks, available space for both the first and last-mile connections will be offered at HMRL stations, TSRTC depots, MMTS stations.

Experts assume that people would prefer to cover short distance journeys using secure travel cycles after COVID-19 situations. The initiative will introduce the C4C Challenge in two phases, the first with cycle tracks on a pilot basis, feedback and knowledge raising, followed by an expansion of the 95 cities strategies. The Central Government would then pick 11 cities for Phase 2.

In the 11 cities chosen, the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs will grant Rs 1 crore, and by May 2021, it is expected that the phase 2 network will be completed.
