Waqf Board Asks GHMC to Solve Land Encroachment Issues

The Telangana State Waqf Board (TSWB) has asked the authorities of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to clarify on the issue of granting building permits on Waqf properties in Attapur.

Illegal Encroachments on Waqf properties

TSWB Chairman Mohammed Saleem responded over the mushrooming of illegal structures on the Waqf land. He said he has some details about the encroachments and that the illegal structures will be demolished at any cost. In this regard, the board has also submitted letters to the officials concerned, requesting stern action and filing of criminal cases against the accused. The land in question is a gazetted seven-acre and 10 guntas of Waqf land, where the illegal constructions have been carried out.

Seeing fault with GHMC officials, he confirmed that in a couple of days, all illegal structures would be demolished, and a meeting with GHMC officials would be held soon to find out how these structures were approved.

The board has also asked the collector and the police to deal firmly with such cases. Dargah Hazrat Syed Ibrahim Hussaini, Qutub Shahi mosque and a graveyard of seven acres and 10 guntas of land under Survey No.389 in the village of Attapur are some of the properties that have been encroached upon.

A GHMC official said they were going to review the complaint and investigate the issue. There is a distinct chance that the civic body would be stuck in the dark about the region's extent of Waqf property.
