Amazon to Invest Huge Funds for Data Centres in Hyderabad

The Telangana state, recognized to be a pioneer on different fronts, strengthened its position as the country's leading investment hotspot on Fridays when Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, confirmed a Rs 20,761 ($2.77 billion) investment for multiple data centres in Hyderabad. This is the state's biggest investment in FDI ( Foreign Direct Investment).

This investment will be made for the development of an AWS Region in Hyderabad with three Availability Zones. By mid-2022, operations should commence in the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region. At AWS Announcement, IT and Industry Minister KT Rama Rao stated that this investment of AWS would be the largest FDI attracted by the government since it was formed.

AWS has chosen Hyderabad as a preferred destination because of the State Government system's transparency. This investment further enhances Telangana's current association with Amazon. Amazon's largest office campus is already situated in Hyderabad.

Telangana will become one of the ideal destinations for other companies which are looking to develop data centres in the future, with AWS investments. The setting up of data centres such as AWS is expected to multiply the digital economy and IT industry in Telangana.

More developers, startups, companies as well as government, education and Non-Profit Organizations will be able to operate their applications and serve end-users from data centres in India via the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region. The development of data centres in the region would boost the activities of e-commerce, the public sector, the banking and financial services (BFSI), IT and more.

Why does AWS Choose Telangana?

Telangana is one of the most progressive states, with policies aimed directly at enhancing the growth of IT and IT Services (ITES) enterprises in India. Hyderabad is one of the cities that has achieved the fastest growth in the information technology industry over the years and is home to numerous innovative startups.

Because of the support provided by the Telangana Government,  AWS chose Hyderabad, because it met the strict criteria for an AWS zone, a strong policy structure. The AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) region provides its customers more flexibility and choice, thus enabling them to architect their fault tolerance, resiliency and accessibility across geographical locations.

Managing Efficiency

With the launch of the AWS in the Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) region, customers in South India can experience even less latency. The new region comprises three Availability zones, joining the current nine AWS regions in India, Australia, China, Japan, Korea and Singapore in 26 Availability Zones across Asia.

AWS has 77 access zones globally across 24 infrastructure regions and declared plans to launch 15 more access zones and five more in India, Indonesia, Japan, and Spanish AWS regions.
