First-Ever Waste Management Plant Constructed At Jeedimetla, Hyderabad

Seeking a solution for construction and demolition waste has always been a problem for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Now they have the first waste management plant in Jeedimetla, Hyderabad. The plant is the largest plant in South India and the country's second-largest which is spread over 15 acres of land.

First Waste Management Plant in Hyderabad

On Saturday, November 7th, IT Industry and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao along with the MLA and other authorities inaugurated the first Jeedimetla plant. The minister also declared that there would soon be a second plant at Fathullaguda.

Under the Public-Private Partnership ( PPP) mode, the recycling plant for construction and demolition was built for recycling the waste. The waste will be reused for pavements and building into tiles, bricks, road metal, and coarse sand. The recycling plant is a state-of-the-art processing facility fully equipped to handle the collection, transportation, processing and management of waste generated in and around Hyderabad.

As per GHMC officials, the new waste management plant in Jeedimetla area has a recycling capacity of 500 tonnes per day. It will help the city build up its waste recycling capabilities to address the long-standing issue of construction debris dumping on roadsides, open plots, and other places. While it will be a relief to the city, which will clear a lot of roadside heaps in the city, it can recycle and recover more than 90% of the materials collected.

The process is scientific as per construction and demolition (C&D) waste management rules. Mostly, by-products created from the recycling of C&D waste may be used for non-structural purposes, such as foot-paths and road sub-bases.
