GHMC Taking Up Shaikpet Flyover Works at Brisk Pace

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has pacing up the works of Shaikpet flyover at Osmania University Colony, to ease the traffic congestion from Rethibowli to Gachibowli. The civic body intends the project to be completed and to be open by September for vehicle movement.

It is also an intermediate Ring Road from Rethibowli to Gachibowli and heavy road traffic is round the clock. In addition, the stretch forms a major connection between the busy IT hubs from Hitech City and the financial district.

GHMC Fast Tracked Shaikpet Flyover Works

In the peak hours, heavy traffic jams are seen which cause disruption in the commuting and car drivers spend a long time at their destination apart from exhausting more petrol. Taking all of this into account, the municipal council is constructing a 6-lane flyover, with an approximate cost of Rs 333.50 crore, to facilitate traffic congestion on the stretch.

The crossing from the Seven Tombs junction, Film Nagar junction, OU Colony junction and Whisper Valley junction will make this flyover easy and will offer smooth transport towards IT hubs.

The officials from GHMC informed that work are being carried out rapidly with the purpose of completing the project by the end of September. The initial delay in land and property acquisition and other aspects was somewhat covered by different work during the lockdown. About  20 foundations on traffic-free roads were set up and completed on 22 March. In addition, during the lockdown period 17 pier caps were installed at very critical locations.

The works have moved at a fast pace since then. All pillars were laid and among 71 pier caps, 59 were laid, and 40 slabs of 71 slabs were completed.
