Government Installing CCTV Cameras to Enhance Security in Hyderabad

IT Minister and Minister of Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao directed the officials to make sure not less than 10 lakh CCTV cameras cover the city.

Installation of CCTV Cameras in City

Mr KTR instructed officials during a review meeting to mount more CCTVs in addition to the 5.8 lakh cameras already operational. Rao requested government officials to work closely with different government agencies, public sector firms, and residential welfare organisations to instal CCTV cameras where appropriate.

Police and Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Departments instructed to work together to instal CCTVs in the suburbs of the cities where new colonies were being established. The Minister stressed the need for cameras at crowded places and said that in the newly built flyover and roads, the same facility should be given.

The department of MA&UD was directed to coordinate its operations with the Police Department in order to ensure that CCTVs were mandatorily placed in all commercial complexes, gated communities, malls, IT Parks, parks, shelter homes, government hospitals, bus terminals, and markets.

The protection of people was the top priority for CM K Chandrashekhar Rao and introduced several State security initiatives. In addition, the Government was interested in knowing whether the new GHMC and HMDA Acts would soon implement rules relating to the installation of CCTVs.

After consulting the traffic police, the GHMC was informed about measures to be taken to improve traffic management. The Department of Police should also train cyber warriors for those investigating cyber-crimes following the rise of cybercrimes during the lock-down phase.

Hyderabad is the first amongst other States and 16th in the world to set up public safety CCTV cameras. As the city expands and receives more investment, the vigil will be strengthened.
