Hyderabad Has Emerged as a Hub of Aerospace Technology

Industry Minister KT Rama Rao has informed that over the past five years, Hyderabad has emerged as a major aerospace hub with several global aerospace companies and original equipment manufacturers, including the Lockheed Martin Corporation, GE Aviation and Safran, having established their plants in the city.

City Identified as Aerospace Hub

Rao stated that these companies are involved in the manufacture of composite aircraft structures, fuselage and engine spare parts, primarily for civil aircraft, helicopters and unmanned vehicles. However, city-based MSMEs supply these companies with systems and subsystems.

The state government has managed to attract investments strategically in the aerospace defence sector. Due to Covid-19, the aviation industry has somewhat been affected, and restrictions on international flight movements are still in place. But for the aerospace sector, the situation is relatively favourable.

The industry would create high value jobs for 3,000 to 5,000 persons, either directly or indirectly, in the next three years. These jobs in Hyderabad include manufacturing, equipment and engineering sectors.

In seven SEZ parks in Hyderabad, the State Government is promoting aerospace technology. There is a specific airspace SEZ at Adibatla, which has formed its base for TATA, Lockheed Martin Corporation, GE Aviation and Boeing.

Approximately 5,500 acres were allocated to aeronautical development at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). Maintenance, repair and rework (MRO) and several other enterprises were established. In another Nadergul SEZ, the State administration connected more companies. In the city suburbs where UAVs are manufactured, Adani Aerospace Park has been set up on 20 acres of space.

Parks I and II have been allocated to hardware, where firms establish facilities in the aerospace and defence sectors. In a composite park on 100 acres, close to Ibrahipatnam, land is allocated to 40 companies. At Eliminedu in Ibrahimpatnam, a dedicated aerospace park and the land purchase process is underway.
