The Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar, which has taken over the KCR Island development within the framework of the Karimnagar City Renewal Programme, has left no stone in the way that the mega-Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) utilized the abundant natural resources.

The State government has provided a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and tenders will be invited once it is approved. It is expected that the work will begin soon on the island. The minister had decided to develop the "KCR Island" as the water was available all year round with the prestigious KLIS. This was part of several activities in order to make the island part of Karimnagar a major tourism destination.

The KCR Island project is expected to cost Rs 20 crore and the Tourist Department has already decided to begin work at a cost of Rs 5 crore in the first phase.
