Over 10 Lakh Homes Were Built During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Recently the Indian Parliament was informed that nearly 10.75 lakh houses were built during the Covid-19 pandemic under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) scheme of PMAY-U. Uttar Pradesh topped the charts, adding 2.55 lakh homes to its kitty.

Hardeep Singh Puri, minister of housing and urban affairs, stated these facts in a written reply to a question asked in the Parliament. He informed that under the scheme, more than 43 lakh homes have been completed so far. This includes more than 10 lakh homes built during the Covid-19 pandemic — between March 2020 and March 2021. 

Among the states, UP topped the chart, followed by Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal. Andaman and Nicobar islands completed 21 projects under the scheme during the same time. 

Furthermore, more than 1,10, 70,970 houses have been sanctioned of which 74, 83,896 are under various stages of construction. The amount of financial assistance released by the Centre under this scheme is nearly Rs  1,78,076 crore.
