Although a study on water meters is yet to be launched by SCB (Secunderabad Cantonment Board) to implement the 20KL free water scheme, the residency associations (RWAs) have been approached to use the scheme by fixing water meters in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as on the outskirts of GHMC.

With just two weeks to go by before the automated water metering date (March 31) comes into force, RWAs are buying water metres from agencies that cater to both domestic and non-national customers that fall under the HMWSSB (Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.

Problems, such as Aadhaar's link with the consumer account number (CANs), have been solved in a small number of RWAs. Of 4,300 RWAs, almost 3,000 have conformed to the guidelines of the water board for fixing the water meters.
