According to a recent report by Savills India, private equity investment inflows into the real estate sector in India has touched Rs 135 billion (USD 1.9 billion) in the first quarter of 2021. Just a year ago, or in Q1, 2020, private equity investment in real estate stood at USD 0.65billion.
Speaking to the media, Diwakar Rana, Managing Director, Savills India, said, “The noticeable recovery of the real estate market and the increase in the inflow of private capital is a clear sign of growth and a reflection of the confidence of investors in the real estate market, especially the commercial real estate market in the country.” Despite the growing work-from-home culture, commercial real estate assets remained the front-runner, garnering more than 58% of the investment pie, added Rana.
Most of the quarterly investments came from foreign institutions and were concentrated in the southern cities of Hyderabad and Bangalore. There has also been an increased demand for warehousing facilities.
Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru were the top destinations for attracting investments in the industrial sector during Q1 of 2020.
