GHMC finds a cure for road Damage

Unlike traditional methods, Road Rakshak patch seals potholes and cracks. Having said that, the best part is that they are cost-effective as well as tried and tested. The idea of the project came from the American Road Patch™ peel and Seal Repair Patch which settles down with the road and produces a waterproof seal, extending the time for repairs.

Potholes are depression on the roads that can make travelling risky and tiresome by affecting the smooth flow of the traffic in the city. With the advancement in technology now, this pilot project which has been brought from Bengaluru is going to help remake the roads, making roads safer, smoother, and faster. The Strengthened Glass Fiber patch is termed as ‘Road Rakshak Path’ which will soon be used to cover all the potholes in the GHMC limits.

GHMC Superintending Engineer quotes “unlike traditional methods, Road Rakshak Patch strengthens, and seals potholes, cracks, and utility cut repairs”. Having said that, even after imparting the new ways and techniques to make long lasting roads, the issue of water logging has taken a back seat. Traditional repair methods use only fills, which are a temporary fix. American Road Patch TM is the solution and GHMC has applied the patch. "For applying the patch no special truck or equipment is needed, it is easy to apply. It has a high-strength fiberglass grid reinforced which bonds to both asphalt or concrete which has a life span of at least two years.

While the patches show a positive outcome, commuters suggested it must be initiated on all the damaged roads, considering the patch is long-lasting and a good switch than traditional methods of repairing roads. With the recent heavy monsoon shower, several potholes on the roads were displaying severe risks for the commuters, giving an indication to the authorities to start repairing roads at the earliest.
