GHMC is working arduously to maintain normalcy after rains

Although Hyderabad experienced heavy rains like none before in the past few days, the city's daily life wasn't affected unusually because of the tremendous efforts of the Monsoon teams recruited by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The teams worked immensely with labor and machinery to curtail the havoc caused by the heavy outbursts and maintain normalcy in the citizen's daily lives.

The public conveyed many grievances to the GHMC, along with over 100 complaints due to the heavy rains. These crises were obeyed and solved by the Disaster Resolve Force (DRF) teams.

All the teams involved worked remarkably without rest to ensure that stagnant water was cleared, collapsed tree branches were ridden, choke points and catch-pits were checked, etc. Earthmovers cleared drainage blockages in some areas to reduce any additional risks. Garbage and silt were also discarded by GHMC's sanitation workers to minimize the destruction caused by the rains.

The teams worked in shifts to regularize the areas of Banjara Colony in Hayat Nagar, P&T Colony in Gaddiannaram ward, Rein Bazar, Dhobighat in Yakutpura Assembly segment, Moosarambagh in Malakpet Assembly segment, etc. which would be impacted the most otherwise.

A wall collapsed on Road Number 10, Banjara Hills, on the 10th of October, and GHMC officials cleared the clutter that was created. Two cars were damaged due to this incident, and no other casualties and damages were recorded. Mending the fallen wall has been allotted to the Roads and Building Department, and they are responsible for its reconstruction.

The post sanitation activities undertaken involved spraying Pyrosene oil in water bodies using drones, conducting anti-larval operations, and fogging the affected areas by the civic body’s entomology wing. To ensure cleanliness, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials assessed manholes and the low-lying regions near Musi.

One hundred fifty families in Banjara Colony and Hayath Nagar ward were rehabilitated as a precaution from the effects of the heavy rain outbursts. Food andDisaster water were arranged for them as well. Further rehabilitation centers were set up for other low-lying and vulnerable areas.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) closed five gates of Himayat Sagar due to the recent retreat of rain in Hyderabad. Inflows into Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar from the upstream areas have also lowered due to the withdrawal of downpours.
