HMDA to Come With Skywalk to Facilitate Pedestrian Movement at Uppal

While the city's residents still need to experience the cable-stayed bridge of Durgam Cheruvu wonders, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is coming up with another phenomenon of engineering in the form of an Uppal skywalk.

Upcoming Skywalk in Uppal

The HMDA has already floated tenders, and an agency will carry out the work. This is the first of its kind long structure to being designed in the city. It is estimated that the 660 metres skywalk will take one year to complete all across and connect all four sides, including the metro station.

The structure will be designed with a range of facilities including elevators and escalators and circumnavigate the junction. Contrary to traditional skyways, the Uppal skywalk would allow footpath movement in multiple directions.

It is expected that the work would be started very soon with an estimated cost of Rs 36.50 crore and be carried out in two phases. The key provisions in stage A will include skywalk, lifts, escalator, electrical equipment, fire safety and landscaping. Stage B consists of skywalk roofing, commercial areas and others.

Adding to this, the government designed similar projects in other high-traffic areas based on need and feedback.
