TS Government to Set Exclusive Reservoir for Long Term Water Supply

KT Rama Rao said the Keshavapuram reservoir land purchase has nearly finished, and Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekhar Rao, will soon lay the foundation for the project.

The acquisition of 1,490 acres for the construction of a reservoir is almost completed, and no problem for drinking water in Hyderabad would occur by 2050 when this reservoir is constructed. The development of an exclusive pool will meet the city needs for drinking water, and therefore the Government decided to build a reservoir at Keshavpuram.

Plans to Construct Kesavapuram Reservoir

The MA&UD Minister, who met with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to review the progress of Projects on Tuesday, instructed the officials to intensify the efforts to achieve the second phase permits from the forest department that had already been given preliminary permissions.

The objective of the planned project is that Hyderabad has to get an exclusive reservoir and to ensure that there are no long-term drinking water problems in the city. The Chief Minister will lay the foundations for the project soon. The state government decided to provide HMWSSB with all support to speed up the project.

Adding to this, The Minister has announced that the city will expand wastewater treatment capabilities. By building more STPs, the state government focuses on safe water bodies and zero disposal of waste. Currently, about 770 MLD of sewage was processed in the city, and an additional 1200 MLD will increase this capacity.

Hyderabad was already in top place in terms of sewerage treatment compared to other Metro cities, considering its existing sewage treatment capacity. To this factor, instructions were given to the officials of HMWSSB to prepare and send a report to the Government in one week on the specifications for new STPs in accordance with the Hyderabad Sewerage Master Plan.
