Telangana government to install 31 STP's worth Rs. 3,800 crores

The State Government of Telangana has undertaken a project for the treatment of sewage with the help of sewage treatment plants (STP's). The budget allocated for this project is estimated at Rs. 3,800 crores, and the objective decided is to treat 100% of the sewage generated in the city within GHMC limits. The areas considered for the project essentially emphasize the Musi catchment areas and abutting areas of Hussain Sagar Nalaas.  

The master plan of setting the sewage treatment plants is expected to be completed by 2023, and additionally, reservoirs will be constructed in GHMC peripheral areas. The government has agreed to sanction Rs. 1,200 crores for the construction of these reservoirs. The project will entitle Hyderabad as the only city treating 100% sewage and will help in stimulating environmental protection. This project will take Hyderabad one step closer to becoming a truly global city as aspired by the TRS government. Consultants prepared the plan after collecting many reports and recorded the sewage for this year to be around 1,950 MLD - 1,650 MLD in GHMC and 300 MLD in peripheral areas within the Outer Ring Roads with the minister's authorization.  

The minister also added that works for hybrid annuity aspects would be undertaken where 60% of the cost would be accepted by agencies and the state government would pay 40%. The firms would ratify it for an approximation of 15 years.
