Builders in Hyderabad told to adopt lakes within 500m of all Projects

It will now be made necessary for real estate developers acquiring permission for ventures in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) region to tend to any lakes or water bodies within 500 meters of their planned layout or mega projects, bringing in all real estate wave developer associations for the preservation of lakes in the city. There are almost 3,100 lakes in the metropolitan territory.

Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao carried a review meeting with the officials, instructing them to include developers for lake preservation and the growth of greenery near their projects.

Full tank level (FTL) was confirmed and conservation measures were resorted to for a few lakes in the HMDA region, and the rest are still unidentified by revenue as well as irrigation departments. The municipal administration has adopted beautification of lakes gradually in GHMC thresholds.

The HMDA will apply new norms for all types of developments and permissions of layouts, multi-story buildings, gated communities, and commercial complexes.

The officials stated that sewerage was infiltrating nearby lakes illegally in many ventures, which needed to be curbed. Arvind Kumar stated that developers will have to build walkways and cultivate greenery, enhancing the water quality of lakes.
