Property registration rates in Telangana may rise

Property registration rates in Telangana may go up by 20%-50%

The Telangana government might raise property registration charges by 20-30% for both agricultural and non-agricultural properties. The revised charges will be applicable from February 1 if the cabinet authorizes the proposal.

The proposal was made six months after the state government expanded property values for the registration of all properties. The Registration and Stamps (R&S) department, which is anticipated to get ₹10,000 crore revenue in the prevailing financial year, will get another Rs 3,000-4,000 crore after the heightened charges apply.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao authorized the R&S department to boost rates as property registrations have heightened in recent times.

A senior official of the Registration & Stamps department said that the government can revise values for non-agriculture properties twice a year and once in two years for agriculture properties, but concluded to increase charges for agricultural properties too. Preparatory meetings are carrying on heeding these proposals, primarily on the expanse of the rise, and these meetings will conclude in the next few days.

Official sources said the government is focusing on the agricultural properties as land rates have hiked in the state since the formation of Telangana, particularly after the completion of various irrigation projects.
